cable failed and caused a fire. they tell us that most of the 120 customers without power will not have it on until tomorrow morning. let's take you back to 7:00 a.m. this morning. flames shot out from the ground. bge and fire crews responded to get the situation under control. no one was injured. the restaurants were hurt. the majority had to close and lost a lot of business today. >> right now, we're trying to save as much as we can as far as the food. the freezers, refrigerators, were. stuff -- prepared stuff that we want to save and not throw out. >> date shipped in some dry ice to keep the food called for the rest of the business this week. the power outage will result in thousands of dollars of lost revenue tonight. as you can see, they are still working to replace the underground cable that failed. they are also looking to replace some transformers that allegedly blew as well. as for what caused it, that is still under investigation. we're told that about 40 customers should get power back on tonight. the remaining 80 should get the power back on some time tomorrow morning.

baltimore. that is the headline of tonight's commitment 2010 report. jayne miller joins us live in the newsroom. >> the new reports show that republican bob ehrlich has outraged democratic governor martin o'malley -- out raised governor martin o'malley. challenger gregg bernstein continues to surge in financial support to try to unseat incumbent pat jessamy. the challenger continues to pull in donors at a brisk clip, outperforming incumbent pat jessamy by a margin of nearly 3 to 1. the report shows he has raised more than $70,000 in just 19 days from august 10 thru august 29. most of the donations were less than $100, according to the bernstein campaign. he has a comfortable cushion for a last-minute advertising leading up to the election. by contrast, pat jessamy has pulled in $28,000 over the same 19-day period. we reported a loan wednesday, a personal loan jessamy is making to help pay for tv advertising that just started on the air. >> a spokesperson for the o'malley campaign called the recent aids in fund-raising for challenger bob ehrlich no big deal. the spokesperson said that h

blown probable storm. kerry cavanaugh joins us live from baltimore. it was not too long ago we were worried it was to drive around here. now the city has a completely different problem to deal with. >> that seemed like a distant memory. one of the main concerns is that the ground is saturated because we have seen so much rain this week. emergency managers say that makes it more likely that trees will come down and toppled power lines in the process. people got out to enjoy a beautiful night on federal hill, taking advantage of the calm before the storm. preparing for the onslaught of rain, the city's department of public works deployed cruise to clear clogged the storm drains. >> all that water eventually runs off into local streams, the harbor, and the day. >> they cannot check of the city's 52,000 storm drains so they are urging baltimore residents to pitch in. >> we are asking every citizen to take a look on their street to see if there storm drains are clear. if there is trash on top, sweep that off. the biggest defense against flooding is a broom and a trash can. >> one of the

basara. thanks so much for joining us. let's get a check of weather and traffic on this friday morning. feels nice and cool out there. >> yesterday was nice, a little breezy, but nice. sun was out, temperatures were outstanding, and after the long, hot summer, it needed it. it was nice. the other thing is the dry, crveragey grass and everything else, the garden drying up. we could use a little rain. we have that in the forecast as well, some sunshine. now, what you see out there in illinois, kentucky, tennessee, that's not the rain that's in our forecast really. it's just the stuff that's closest to us right now. that's the remnants of the moisture from hermine, which produced a lot of problems in texas and the plains states and flooding. so that is not in our immediate future. sunshine is. details on that coming up in the forecast in just a second or two. but now we have some traffic issues. >> yeah, one is causing some problems, hopefully to be cleaned up before most of the rush starts. but right now, northbound 795 is shut down right at owings mills boulevard because of a crash ther

. welcome back. i am stan stovall. >> and i'm mindy basara. thank you for joining us this morning. let's check the weather and traffic on this monday morning. >> it was a good rain yesterday. we needed it. now we have some cloud cover and a touch of fog in some neighborhoods. let's look at the temperatures. upper 50's and low 60's in most spots. mostly cloudy skies and 62 at the airport. the clouds should breakup later this afternoon. we will check the seven-day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. we will talk about a monster hurricane, almost a category 5. >> we have a busy rushed up and cecil county. all lanes are closed. three tractor-trailers are involved in an accident. you can see all the activity. they are trying to clean up a fuel spill. northbound 95 at chesapeake house. all northbound lanes are closed. you can see route 1 or pulaski highway. southbound traffic is getting by just fine. but nothing in the northbound direction. watch for delays on northbound 95 at chesapeake house. no problems to report other than this water main break and york road. route 4 the, we have a d

board of elections is investigating allegations that a candidate used a fake name. rebecca lynn nelson is running as a democrat. she said she did what she was told to do. she filled out a form saying they printer rebecca weir nelson rather than her real name. david collins wanted to know more. >> you were banking on the family's name recognition. >> no, i'm banking on the fact that people know my family's character and that we are conservative and that we're concerned about the environment. >> the state is investigating formal complaints that she did not provide written statements, two, two that she was known in the economy as rebecca weir nelson. we will have more on our website. just click on local news. this man was reportedly ordered to volunteer at an animal shelter after being charged with animal abuse. he is accused of beating a dog with a pipe. the dog was severely injured and eventually euthanized. prosecutors said he needed to perform 50 hours of community service. the spca is upset and admits there were never consulted about the recommendation. >> maryland requires st
